In this episode

  • Season 2 kicks off with new mustaches, new sunglasses, and a rapid-fire AEO myth-busting round: llms.txt, schema, listicles, and content freshness all get a verdict.
  • The take that will annoy half of LinkedIn: 90% of AEO is SEO, they lean on each other, and we're openly inviting anyone who disagrees to come debate us on the show.
  • That stat claiming 60% of AI citations are listicles gets picked apart: high-authority sites just happen to publish listicles, so people are confusing the driver with the format.
  • We expose how AI visibility trackers mislead you: responses where no brand gets mentioned still count against your visibility, and API testing versus fresh-browser scraping produce completely different answers.
  • Why Claude can't replace your SEO: if you can't evaluate the output in a field you don't know, you can't own the result. The real juice was never published online anyway.

What we learned (steal these)

  • AI is an assistant, not a replacer. It streamlines the work, but only an expert can evaluate whether the output is actually correct.
  • Ground your AEO in SEO. Per Ahrefs' analysis, around 90% of search still happens on classic Google, and AI overviews are built from the top 10 anyway.
  • Treat AI visibility data with suspicion. Nobody has real prompt data yet, and many trackers count answers with zero brand mentions as lost visibility when in fact nobody was visible.
