In this episode

  • A DR 80 site with almost 10,000 referring domains and only around 24,000 non-brand US visits a month: StreamYard might be the biggest wasted SEO opportunity we have roasted.
  • Eagle Eye Itay fired up Screaming Frog and the crawler slogged through more than 300 URLs before it ever reached the blog.
  • The crawl visualization looked like a horror movie: noindexed product-update and support subdomains swallowing roughly 90 percent of the crawl.
  • Riverside publishes less, carries a lower DR, and still laps StreamYard on non-brand traffic. We pulled up the five year chart and watched the takeover happen.
  • The verdict: a C from Ben, a C minus from Itay, a D from Yaron, and StreamYard walks away with a C minus.

Key findings

  • The top organic keyword is StreamYard's own brand name in Japanese, and once brand terms are filtered out, US non-brand traffic falls to roughly 24,000 visits a month.
  • The blog is missing from the top navigation and buried so deep the crawler passed 300 URLs before finding it.
  • The new.streamyard.com product-updates subdomain is noindexed yet fully crawlable, so together with the support subdomain it eats about 90 percent of the crawl budget.
  • The homepage title tag is just StreamYard with no head term, and one article ran 27 H3s and 78 H4s with no author page, breadcrumbs, categories, or a single image.
  • Internal links are scarce with unoptimized anchors, and the support subdomain still carries non-secure HTTP internal links.

Top action items

  • 1Put the blog in the top navigation and treat 300 plus published posts like the asset they are.
  • 2Block or nofollow the noindexed subdomains in robots so Google spends its crawl budget on pages that can actually rank.
  • 3Optimize what already exists before writing anything new: real title tags on the homepage and product pages, internal links, images, videos, author pages, and CTAs.

What we learned (steal these)

  • A strong brand is not an SEO strategy. Authority you never point at content is authority wasted.
  • Before you create more content, squeeze what you already have. Internal links and on-page fixes alone could double this blog's traffic.
  • Crawl budget is real at scale. A forgotten subdomain can quietly eat the crawler alive while your money pages wait in line.
